FR-12 is a pocket-sized field radio. It receives FM, DAB+, and shortwave. It plays music from your phone over Bluetooth. It runs for 14 hours on a single charge. It is made of aluminum and weighs 312 grams. The knob is real. The speaker faces forward. There are no menus.

The speaker is forward-firing, 40 millimeters in diameter, and tuned for spoken word and acoustic music. It will not rattle the windows. It is loud enough for a kitchen, a tent, a balcony, a hotel room. We tuned it by listening to it for six months and changing things until it sounded right.

We made FR-12 because we wanted one. Most portable speakers we tried felt like accessories — designed for a marketing photograph, not a kitchen counter. We wanted something heavier, simpler, and more obviously made. Something you would hand to your child in twenty years and they would still know how to use.
